J-Mac released from hospital after being struck by car in Greece – Spectrum News

GREECE, N.Y. — A beloved local celebrity who was hospitalized in the ICU after he was in an accident while riding his bicycle has now been released from the hospital.

According to his mother, Jason McElwain, also known as “J-Mac,” was released from Strong Hospital Hospital on Monday after passing a physical therapy test.

Before checking out, he tweeted a photo from his hospital bed, saying, “I’m going home after 10 days praise Jesus keep recovery prayers coming.”

McElwain broke both his cheekbone and collar bone and suffered other injuries.

J-Mac, who is diagnosed with autism, became well known in 2006 when the Greece Athena High School basketball coach put him in the game for the first time during the team’s senior night.

The team’s manager miraculously fired off six three-point shots and scored 20 points in three minutes.

“He shot an air ball his first shot and missed his second shot,” retired high school basketball coach Jim Johnson said earlier this month. “Then he proceeded about the next three minutes he scored 20 points, including six three-pointers. It’s a memory I will cherish until I take it to my grave.”

Jason’s mother says doctors told her it will take another six to eight weeks before he is fully recovered.
